Seventeen years ago – long before the conversations we have today about “going green” and “carbon footprints” – Henkel started work on replacing oil-based ingredients with more earth-friendly raw materials in its glue sticks.
Back in 1991, we were dependent on polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), a derivative of mineral oil, for the adhesive base of our glue sticks. After years of development and testing, our researchers successfully replaced PVP with starch ether, which is derived from natural plant extracts. The starch formula we innovated is made from 90% renewable resources and is non-toxic, solvent-free, and acid-free – environmentally-friendly, yet with a strong bonding strength.
Today, Henkel is the only worldwide supplier of starch-based glue sticks – and our foresight in 1991 is what meets your expectations in 2008.
