Pritt History

The Building of a Worldwide Brand

1969

In 1969 Henkel invented the world's first glue stick after studying the "twist-up ease" and convenience of lipstick applicators. Since then, the world of gluing has never been the same - consumers finally had a clean and convenient method of gluing! In more than 30 years since the first "tubed glue" hit the market, Henkel has sold over 1 billion glue sticks in 121 countries, distinguishing Pritt as a true worldwide brand.

1971

The Pritt Stick is available in 38 countries.

    1988

    Launch of the Design stick.

    1995

In 1995 Henkel purchased the roller business from the German firm Pelikan. Under its leadership as the #1 adhesives manufacturer in the world, Henkel further expanded its roller range to include new, compact and ergonomic designs for correcting and gluing.

    1999

In 1999, Henkel brought "dry" highlighting to market as the newest addition to its roller range. This unique highlighter is both dry and erasable. Additionally, Henkel entered the tape market with the invention of the one-handed tape roller.

    2000

While others entered the new Millenium in a BIG way, Henkel entered the year 2000 with the introduction of the smallest width correction roller pen for single character corrections. Now even the smallest mistakes can be quickly covered with just the stroke of a pen!

      2001

Not only is Pritt a worldwide brand, but March 2001 literally launched Pritt as a "Universe-wide" brand! On March 17, 2001 at precisely 09:23, a Soyuz rocket lifted off from the Baikonur Cosmodome in Kazakhstan carrying a cargo of Pritt products bound for the International Space Station (ISS). On board, Russian Cosmonaut Yury Usachev, Commander of the ISS, personally tested the Pritt products. Upon rigorous daily use under zero-gravity and other extreme conditions of space, Pritt was officially awarded the exclusive seal of "Space Proof Quality".

      2003

In 2003 Henkel launched some exciting new products: PowerPritt combines the power of a multi-purpose glue with the convenient form of a Glue Stick. No More Scissors is a clear tape with serrated edges so it can be easily torn by hand. KidsArt is our comprehensive crafting range. Last but not least our new Refill Rollers (Gluing and Correction): they are smaller, better and contain a 17% longer tape.

        2004

The Pritt product range is extended with PowerPritt Gel. This innovative Henkel product supports the PowerPritt Stick for multi-purpose gluing: Coming in a headstand bottle, it both suits for large-area and precise application. Especially uneven, rough surfaces, spaces and crevices can be coped with this first solvent free multi-purpose gluing gel!

Thanks to its innovative gel consistence and ergonomic bottle shape, an impressive diversity of materials can be glued flexibly and neatly. This amazing feature was rewarded at the German "Verpackungsdesign Wettbewerb 2005": Based on criteria such as formal aesthetics, innovation, functionality and usability, the Henkel product was declared to be the superior winner!

        2005

Introducing the Correction Comfort Roller Pritt enables the consumer to correct even sidewards.

And the consistent development of the Roller range pays off: The Correction Comfort Roller follows suit the success of the Pritt Glue Compact Roller, winner of the innovation contest "Product of the Year" (FVKK). Due to its outstanding design, the Pritt Correction Roller for sideward correction received the "red dot design award 2005".

        2006

Launching its new tape range, Pritt solves a number of typical tape problems such as the laborious search for the tape's beginning, difficult refill and slipping dispensers.

The Pritt tape range convinces due to intelligent solutions, versatile applications and brilliant gluing qualities - crystal clear and invisible!
