A menacing outfit for a fearless pirate
How can you spot a pirate? His hat and his eye patch! Both can be made quickly and those items your pirate outfit is almost complete. Then all you need is a mean expression, but you'll have to practice that in the mirror.
- photo paper, 50x70 cm, black
- craft felt, white, black, red
- crepe paper, white
- Pritt PVA Craft Glue
- brass fasteners
- hole punch
Your child will need your help to measure the pirate hat.
Pirate hat instructions:
Print out the template and stick it together on the markings.
Trace the whole template for the pirate hat onto black photo paper twice. Cut out both.
Then you have to make a frill out of crepe paper. Cut off a wide strip from the crepe paper. Then glue the strip to the top edge of the pirate hat.
Now print out the skull and crossbones design and trace it onto white felt.
Cut it out and glue it to the middle of the front of the pirate hat.
Then attach both parts of the hat with brass fasteners. You will need an adult's help for that.
Lay both pieces together and try on the hat for size. Mark the places where later you need to make the holes for the fasteners. Make sure that the hat isn't too loose. It shouldn't fall down over your eyes later.
Then make two holes on each side for the brass fasteners. Use the markings. Place the brass fasteners through the holes and bend the ends around.
Decorate the hat with a few colourful feathers and a felt rosette. Try it on again to make sure it fits right. It fits perfectly? Brilliant. Now all you need is an eye patch to complete your outfit.
Eye patch instructions:
Trace the template onto black felt and cut it out.
Punch holes in the felt in the marked places.
Tie elastic through the holes and your little pirate eye patch is finished.
Tips and tricks:
The crepe paper frill looks particularly good if you make small folds in the paper before glueing it.
