Cheeky crawly card ladybirds

What’s crawling around over there? It's a bunch of cheeky ladybirds! You will need a box to make these little ladybirds. So keep hold of the next box that you are about to throw away. You can use it to make these colourful creepy crawlies.

Material:

  • box
  • photo paper, various colours
  • transparent paper
  • tissue paper or joggle eyes
  • chenille sticks
  • beads
  • Pritt Magic Stick

Tools:

  • pencil
  • felt tip pens
  • scissors

For parents/adults:

It is best to cut the chenille sticks with kitchen scissors because children's craft scissors won't get through.

Instructions:

Step 1

Draw the body of a ladybird on the box and cut it out.

Step 2

Use the chenille sticks to make the ladybird's legs. Cut at least three equally long pieces. Slot the first piece through a gap between the layers near the head.

Push the stick through the card until an equally long piece is sticking out on each side. Put the rest of the legs through the body in the same way.

Step 3

For the feelers, slot another chenille stick through the ladybird's head. Roll the ends into a small coil or put a bead on the end.

Step 4

Now stick coloured paper onto the body. Let your imagination run wild.

Step 5

You can make the eyes out of some tissue paper. Take a small piece of tissue paper and roll it into a ball between your hands. Stick them onto the ladybird's head and draw a dot on each eye.

Step 6

Then cut out the wings from transparent paper and stick them onto the body. Then quickly bend the legs into place and your cheeky ladybird is ready to crawl away.

Tips and tricks:

You can also make other creepy crawlies in the same way. Why not try making a spider or a centipede?
